APPLY FOR A POLICE CERTIFICATE

※ When applying for a Police Certificate, an applicant must be physically present in our office for taking his/her fingerprints. Proxies are not accepted.

ATTENTION FOR APPLYING

 A person who is eligible to apply for the Certificate at the Okinawa Prefectural Police is as follows.
The person who;
・registers residents in Okinawa including Alien registration.
・presently resides in a foreign country and last resident registration place in Japan including Alien registration was Okinawa Prefecture.
・applies none of the above, but wishes to submit an application to Okinawa Prefectural Police for a special reason.

OFFICE HOURS

Change in office hours (reception and issuance of police certificate) between August 11, 2024 and November 2, 2024.
・Open 08:30 to 17:00 (Lunch Break: 12:00 ~ 13:00) on Weekdays (Monday ~ Friday).    

・Open 09:30 to 18:00 (Lunch Break: 12:00 ~ 13:00) on Weekdays (Monday ~ Friday).
・Weekends, Japanese Public Holidays, the Year-End and New Year Holidays (Dec 29 to Jan 3) and Okinawan Memorial Day (June 23), we will not conduct for application, reception and issuance of Criminal Record Certificate Service.
・Please note that when a typhoon is approaching Okinawa (including Miyako Island and Ishigaki Island) and the public transportation is stopped its operation because of issuance of a storm warning, we will not conduct for application, reception and issuance of Criminal Record Certificate Service.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLYING

FOR A PERSON RESIDING IN JAPAN.
  1. Any Documents confirming that a Police Certificate is being requested.
  2. A Valid Passport or Any Documents/Materials issued by the Government Administration Office if the person has no passport.
       ※ However, those who travel abroad need to bring their own valid passport.
  3. One of the following Documents/Identification Cards which is described the Applicant's Name and Address.
     〇Driver's License.
     〇Basic Resident Register Card or My Number Card.
     〇Residence Card.
     〇A Copy of the Residence Certificate(Jumin-Hyo), the Certificate of Items Listed in the Resident Register (Jumin-Hyo Kisai Jikou Shoumeisho), a Copy of the Alien Registration Documents or a Certificate of Items Listed in the Registration Documents.
           ※Any of these Certificates/Documents should be issued within 6 months from the Date of Application.

FOR A PERSON RESIDING IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

 1. Same as 1 and 2 of "FOR A PERSON RESIDING IN JAPAN".
 2. A Copy of Family Register Appendixes or any Documents confirming the applicant's present address and last residential address in Japan.

FOR SOFA STATUS PERSONNEL

 1. Same as 1 and 2 of "FOR A PERSON RESIDING IN JAPAN".
 2. Utility Bills and its Receipts which show your street address if you live off base.
 3. A SOFA ID Cards or Documents.

 AGREEMENT UNDER ARTICLE VI OF THE TREATY OF MUTUAL COOPERATION AND SECURITY BETWEEN JAPAN AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, REGARDING FACILITIES AND AREAS AND THE STATUS OF UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES IN JAPAN

ISSUANCE OF A POLICE CERTIFICATE

・The Certificate will be issued about 2 weeks after the application has been submitted.
    Note: Additional days will be added at Miyakojima P.S. and Yaeyama P.S., Japanese Public Holidays, the Year-End and New Year Holidays, Okinawan Memorial Day, while effecting a typhoon warning and etc.
・The applicant himself/herself must come to receive the certificate.
      ※We do not send it by mail.
・If the applicant is unable to come to the office for special reasons, it can be received by a proxy but a power of attorney is required.

REFERENCE

・The applicant should contact us by phone in advance consultation.
・The applicant residing overseas may apply the Certificate to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in the country.
・The applicant who has already applied the Certificate in the foreign countries may not apply it over again in Japan.
